On June 2, 2008, Mourinho was appointed the successor of Roberto Mancini. He is reported to have signed a three year contract. Mourinho will work alongside Rui Farias, Silvino and André Villas Boas, who were all part of Mourinho's backroom set-up at Chelsea. The assistant coach is Giuseppe Baresi, former head of Inter's youth academy. The following day he attended his first press conference in Milan, declaring he was first contacted by Inter following the nerazzurri's elimination from the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool and speaking solely in a good Italian language, which he admittedly learned in three weeks.
